Alaska Airlines and ZeroAvia developing world’s largest zero-emission aircraft
Raisbeck Aviation High School students recently attended an event at ZeroAvia’s Paine Field research and development site, where Alaska Airlines presented a Bombardier Q400 regional turboprop to ZeroAvia for retrofitting with a hydrogen-electric propulsion system.
The handover of the 76-seat Q400 aircraft was attended by Washington State Governor Jay Inslee, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene, and Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers, as well as representatives from Alaska Airlines and ZeroAvia. ZeroAvia also showcased its multi-megawatt modular electric motor system, which is a critical component of their hydrogen fuel cell engines for larger aircraft.
The partnership aims to expand the reach and applicability of zero-emissions flight technology, and Raisbeck students were privileged to be a part of this innovative initiative.
