Highline Public Schools stands with our Somali and Afghan students, families, staff, and all immigrant communities. Recent remarks from the federal administration have caused pain and fear in our community, and we want to say clearly: you are welcome, you are valued, and you belong in Highline.
In March, our School Board unanimously approved Resolution 02-25: Our Schools, Our Promise – A Stand for Every Student. This resolution reaffirms our commitment to safe, welcoming and discrimination-free schools for every student, regardless of background, immigration status, religion or national origin.
Our Somali and Afghan communities are an important and beautiful part of Highline. We honor your contributions and are committed to protecting your rights, your dignity and your sense of belonging in our schools.
“Our strength as a community comes from our diversity. We are proud to stand with our Somali and Afghan families today and every day, and we remain committed to creating schools where every student and family feels welcome, valued and safe,” said Superintendent Ivan Duran.
