The masks can't hide the smiles! Thursday, March 11 was the first day back at a brick-and-mortar school for about 1,500 Highline students. It was also the first day of in-person school ever for many preschool and kindergarten students!
Our schools welcomed back students in PreK, kindergarten, first grade and K-12 Intensive Academic Center (IAC) classrooms.
Next week, second- and third-grade students will join them, followed by fourth- and fifth-graders.
About 45% of our elementary students are choosing to come to school in person. They are on a hybrid schedule: in school half-days, four days a week and learning from home the rest of the school week. Our other students are continuing in fully remote learning from home.
Thank you to our teachers, bus drivers, paraeducators, principals, office staff and many others who are working so hard to serve our students in person.
We also want to thank our families and students. You are the reason we show up every day, and we are thrilled to welcome more students back to our buildings.
